Chuck the Chimpanzee
Chuck came to the Wildlife Waystation as an adult chimpanzee when his former owner, a private party, could no longer care for him. He now shares a comfortable enclosure with his chimpanzee companion, Jeff.
Chuck has his own, unique personality traits and demonstrates strong intelligence and skills. He is not shy about expressing his likes and dislikes, which he conveys through vocalizations and gestures. An astute and watchful guardian of his surroundings, Chuck is always on alert and ready to greet friends and chase away potential foes. His caretakers know him to be an affectionate, playful chimp who loves interacting with people.

For amusement, Chuck enjoys playing chase with Jeff, browsing through magazines, and experimenting with sounds on his toy piano. He loves to snack on nuts, raisins, juice, and fruit rolls in between meals.
The chimpanzee, also known by the scientific name Pan troglodyte, is a member of the Hominidae family. Sharing over 98% of humans’ DNA, they are considered to be the species most closely related to us, both genetically and cognitively. The physical strength of an adult chimpanzee far surpasses that of humans.
Chimpanzees live in complex, varied social groups called troops and communicate through a wide range of vocalizations and physical gestures. They show great intelligence in problem-solving and the use of simple tools.
When mature, chimpanzees usually weight between 100 and 120 pounds; their life span can exceed 50 years. They are omnivorous and feed on fruits, nuts, leaves, bark, eggs and occasionally meat.
