Wizard the Leopard

Raised by a private party in Oregon, Wizard arrived at the Wildlife Waystation in 1990 when his owner could no longer care for him. He was just four years old.

Wizard has a very sleek and beautiful black coat, soulful eyes, and an unusually large body frame for a leapard. His favorite pastime, like most felines, is napping and lounging around between 18 and 20 hours every day.

The leopard, or Panthera pardus, was formerly widespread in both Asia and Africa. The leopard is now clustered in just a few regions of both continents, with many of its sub-species are now extinct or critically endangered.

Leopards are solitary members of the cat family. They usually hunt both day and night and are strong swimmers and climbers. Leopards spend most of their day sleeping, and can usually be seen sprawled over a tree branch, basking in the sun. Normal litters consist of one to six offspring, and gestation periods are about 90 to 112 days.
